Our campuses are located where large-scale power infrastructure already exists and are designed to connect to the high-voltage network rather than the local distribution networks that supply homes and businesses. At Western Downs Digital Park, the campus will connect through the existing Braemar substation, with the dedicated connection infrastructure funded by the project.

Battery storage forms part of our approach to managing demand. On-site battery systems are designed to smooth changes in electricity demand and present a stable, predictable load to the network. At Campbellfield, the Stage 1 battery energy storage system also allows the facility to store energy purchased in off-peak periods for use during periods of peak demand.

Our campuses are planned for staged delivery, allowing time for new generation and firming capacity to be developed as electricity demand comes online. We intend to work with our customers to support investment in additional generation as demand from our projects grows.

We work with local stakeholders to identify opportunities in employment, supplier participation, skills and education. Community initiatives are developed for each project and progress alongside its planning and delivery.

At Western Downs Digital Park, proposed initiatives include a local supplier capability program, investment in more than 180 electrical and mechanical apprenticeships in partnership with local schools, TAFEs and training providers, support for new local residential housing aligned with Council’s long-term residential housing plan, and purpose-built on-site workforce accommodation designed to avoid placing pressure on housing in surrounding communities.

An independent economic assessment estimates the project would support approximately 1,500 direct on-site construction jobs each year, on average, during construction and, at full capacity, approximately 1,400 direct operational roles. These estimates assume delivery and operation of the full proposed development, and initiatives will be confirmed through the planning and delivery process.

At Campbellfield, the project is estimated to support approximately 407 full-time-equivalent jobs in each year of construction and, at full capacity, approximately 670 ongoing full-time-equivalent jobs, comprising 255 direct on-site roles and 415 indirect roles across the broader economy.
